Darmasiswa Scholarship Program(Study in Indonesia Scholarship)



The Government of the Republic of Indonesia gives the opportunity for young South Africans to study various subjects of arts and culture in prestigious Indonesian universities and colleges, through the Darmasiswa Scholarship Program for the academic year 2010 - 2011.

The Darmasiswa Scholarship Program is a non-degree program undertaken within a year.

Participants can choose their preferred subjects such as Indonesian language, music and traditional music, gamelan (Javanese orchestra), ethnomusicology, shadow puppetry, dance and traditional dance, crafts, painting, art of making batik (batik design and printing), culinary and photography at any universities and colleges participating in the program.

The scholarship is valued at approximately R25.000 covers tuition fees, monthly living cost allowance of Rp. 1.500.000,- (about R1.500), once off clothing allowance of Rp. 300.000,- (about R300) and other exciting student’s programs, but excludes airfare.

The scholarship program requires candidates to be under 36 years of age, have completed secondary education (high school) or its equivalent, be in good health and have a basic knowledge of the arts and culture subject they are applying for.

Their encourage young South Africans to grab this golden opportunity and to join more than 5.000 alumni of the Darmasiswa Scholarship Program from 75 countries (including South Africa) who have improved their skills and knowledge in arts and culture since the inception of the program in 1974.

Currently, there have been 22 South African alumni of the scholarship program and there are 4 South Africans studying in different universities under the Darmasiswa Scholarship Program for the 2009/2010 academic year.

The scholarship program will start in August 2010.
